All these considerations mean you can no longer lead from the ivory tower and expect to drive your people via intimidation or performance management. If a team member's performance is not satisfactory, then the manager is equally to blame for this lack of success.

Team Leadership requires co-ordination, influence and clear communication to align the efforts of its members. Just driving your team to achieve outcomes can demotivate them, and reduce engagement. Yet an over- optimistic approach can have the team ignoring reality.
